In the minds of most travelers, travel to Peru is primarily associated with Cusco and Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail. But Peru is also one of the best places to visit the rainforests of South America. In fact, in terms of accessibility, Peru is probably the best place to visit the Amazon basin.
Our Tambopata Ecolodge is just a short flight, followed by a relaxing boat trip, from Cusco or Lima. This means that those who plan a Peru vacation can visit Machu Picchu, Cusco, the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Rainbow Mountain, hike the Inca Trail, and visit the jungle, all as part of a 2- or 3-week stay in our beautiful country.
Because Peru is not as famous around the world for its jungle, many travelers are unaware that 60% of Peru’s territory lies within the Amazon basin. In fact, Peru is second only to Brazil as the guardian of one of the largest areas of rainforest in South America.
But what makes jungle trips in Peru so special is how easy they are to enjoy. It is possible to visit the rainforest in many parts of South America and Central America, but nowhere else is it possible to see and experience so much biological diversity in a trip lasting just 3 or 4 days!
From Lima or Cusco, there are regular scheduled flights to the jungle town of Puerto Maldonado, and it’s even possible to take a bus from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado.
At the airport or bus station, we meet all our guests, before taking them by boat to our jungle lodge, where we offer them the chance to immerse themselves in the rainforest, in the company of one of our expert local guides, and to enjoy the comforts of our eco-lodge in their downtime.
So, if you’re planning a Peru trip, be sure to add the jungle to your itinerary, and visit us in our rainforest home!
