From the eco-lodge that is our jungle home in Peru, at Tambopata Ecolodge we have been working every day for more than 30 years to protect the Amazon rainforest.
We believe that ecotourism is one of the best ways to turn the tide against those who are willing to destroy the Amazon basin for short term financial gain. By preserving our own small corner of the Amazon, in our government-approved Private Conservation Area, and helping to monitor the borders of our neighbor, Tambopata National Reserve, we want to protect the rainforest for future generations.
By attracting international travelers to our ecofriendly lodge, we also help to create local employment opportunities, and when tourists spend time and money in our part of southeastern Peru, this demonstrates to local people and all Peruvians that our tropical forests are more valuable if they are left as nature intended them.
The threats to our jungle home are many. In the forests that surround this pristine wilderness, illegal roads have been built to exploit timber as part of logging operations, as well as to supply mining operations that threaten the delicate balance of forest ecosystems composed of countless species of plants and wildlife.
With global warming and mass species extinction threatening to alter forever the nature of our planet, it is now more important than ever to preserve Peru’s 158 Protected Natural Areas, which in total account for almost 17% of our nation’s territory. In spite of years of destruction, the jungles of the Amazon basin remain the most extensive and most untouched of the tropical forests that once encircled the Earth at the equator.
At Tambopata Ecolodge, we understand that we can never relax our vigilance. Our mission is to demonstrate that if Peru can offer those who travel here genuinely ecofriendly adventures in the Amazon forests, then all Peruvians will benefit from doing the right thing: conserving our rich natural heritage.
We offer 3-, 4- and 5-day ecotourism vacation experiences based at our comfortable eco-lodge, with all activities, transport, excursions, jungle lodge accommodation and meals included, for those who travel to Peru not just to see and experience Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail, but also to immerse themselves in nature!
