For pristine Amazon rainforest, stay at our jungle lodge

12 July 2024 (190 visits)

In Peru, a stay at our jungle lodge on the Tambopata River is the best way to access pristine, unspoiled Amazon rainforest and see plenty of wildlife. While all lodges advertise authentic jungle trips and the chance to see animals in the wild, many such establishments are actually located in disturbed, secondary forest, too close to the town of Puerto Maldonado for there to be much hope of seeing a lot of wildlife.

At Tambopata Ecolodge, we are situated in an area of protected Amazon rainforest, on the banks of the Tambopata River, and the Private Conservation Area we work to protect from harm borders Tambopata National Reserve, where we take our guests on professionally guided jungle tours, on forest trails, rivers and lakes.

In the rainforests unaffected by human activity where we built our jungle lodge home more than 30 years ago, wildlife becomes steadily more abundant and varied the further one ventures along the Tambopata River from Puerto Maldonado. That is why we encourage our guests to see the journey time to our eco-lodge from Puerto Maldonado –partially by road, initially, but mostly by boat- as part of the experience of visiting the Amazon rainforest in Peru, rather than as merely a long transfer from the local airport.

In fact, time spent on rivers is truly one of the highlights of any trip to a tropical forest ecosystem. It is a relaxing way to see rainforest flora, and to look out for examples of Amazon fauna, in the water, on riverside beaches, and in the massed ranks of trees flanking the river.

During this first experience of life in the Amazon jungle, in the company of one of our expert naturalist guides, we serve our guests a box lunch onboard, as they settle into the experience of leaving behind the modern world, and entering a different world dominated by nature rather than by humans.

And once our guests arrive at our rainforest lodge, after time to settle into their room, the jungle excursions and river trips we offer as part of our all-inclusive packages begin almost immediately, as we help them to maximize their once-in-a-lifetime rainforest vacation experience.

What your rainforest visit means

In Peru ecotourism has helped make it possible to create national reserves and save the forests of the Amazon basin from destruction. By implementing our ecotourism-based conservation model (see our video), we are ensuring the forests will be around for future generations to appreciate. Pioneering projects like Tambopata Ecolodge, which was established in 1991, serve as a conservation model, by showing how responsible ecotourism can support conservation initiatives.
