In 1991, we created our pioneering eco-lodge in the Amazon rainforest of southeastern Peru. Today, our Private Conservation Area protects an area of rainforest in a region where many parts of the forest are severely affected by illegal gold mining and logging.
At Tambopata Ecolodge, we contribute to a crucial buffer zone for one of the most biodiverse protected natural areas in South America: Tambopata National Reserve. Our innovative ecotourism-based conservation model helped to establish the protected status of the forests for which we are responsible, for the purpose of conservation.
More than 30 years later, our method of combining responsible and sustainable tourism with conservation continues to safeguard the rainforest, and it has been replicated in other parts of the Amazon.
From our jungle lodge home, we ensure that the surrounding forests remain unspoiled and free from the harmful activities seen in other parts of our region. Protected from illegal mining and logging, as well as from invasion by illegal settlers, our forests are healthy.
And because they are so healthy, our forests are home to abundant wildlife. The travelers who choose to come and stay as our guests at our comfortable eco-lodge can be sure of seeing plenty of animals, as they explore forest trails, lakes and rivers with one of our expert local guides, and learn more about the trees and plants of the Amazon.
Here in the greatest wild forest on Earth, travelers who love nature can enjoy the comfort, hospitality and good food we offer, along with great opportunities to spot animals they’ve always dreamed of seeing. Our forests are home to at least eight species of monkeys, more than six hundred species of birds, four of the six species of caimans known to science, giant green anacondas, and big cats.
In recent years, in an important indicator of just how healthy our forests are, sightings of jaguars by our eco-lodge team and guests have continued to increase. And, while not every one of our guests will spot one of these magnificent, solitary and elusive predators, everyone who opts to travel to Peru and stay with us in our Amazon jungle lodge can certainly expect to enjoy the experience of a lifetime!
