When you plan your first trip to the Amazon, you’ll need to consider many factors, such as accommodation, weather, what to wear, what to pack, and what part of the Amazon you want to visit during your Peru vacation.
Firstly, it is important to understand some key facts about the Peruvian Amazon. In Peru, the Amazon rainforest is protected by a number of nature reserves in the northeast and southeast of the country. In southeastern Peru, in rainforest accessible from Cusco or Lima, our Tambopata Ecolodge is eco-friendly by design, and our mission is to conserve the rainforest through financing derived from ecotourism. While some overnight accommodation in the rainforest can leave visitors feeling exposed to the elements, at our eco-lodge our rooms are very comfortable, making for a truly unforgettable experience in a beautiful and remote location.
Usually, the deeper one ventures into the Amazon jungle, the more rustic the accommodation options become. But that isn’t the case at Tambopata Ecolodge. In addition to good accommodation, we offer our guests excellent food, and even a bar and lounge area where they can enjoy a drink and mix with other travelers from all over the world.
What our remote location does mean, though, is great exposure to incredible wildlife! It is its unsurpassed biological diversity that makes Tambopata National Reserve the best place to visit the Amazon jungle in Peru. And because there are regular flights between the town of Puerto Maldonado and Lima or Cusco, we are also very easy to reach!
In Puerto Maldonado, we meet all our guests from the local airport or bus terminal, and take them to our office in town, so that they can store the luggage they won’t be needing during their stay at our rainforest lodge, and take with them only what they’ll need for the days they will be exploring the Peruvian Amazon with us.
From town, a short ride in our private vehicle takes our guests to the port on the Tambopata River, where they board our boat and continue the journey to our jungle lodge, which is located in protected Amazon rainforest, 68 kilometers (43 miles) from Puerto Maldonado.
