Looking for travel tips and a children-friendly plan for your trip to Peru? At Tambopata Ecolodge, we recommend including a balanced combination of cultural highlights and adventures in nature. The perfect way to make this a reality is by visiting Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Amazon rainforest!
The jungle town of Puerto Maldonado, from where our boats take guests to our comfortable eco-lodge, is a convenient 30-minute flight from Cusco, making it the easiest-to-reach part of the Peruvian Amazon. At Tambopata Ecolodge, most of our team of eco-lodge staff, boat crews, camping teams and expert naturalist guides are parents, and we know how to ensure the whole family enjoys the all-inclusive, fully-escorted and guided ecotourism packages we offer!
Families planning to travel to Peru for a one-week, 10-day or two-week vacation should certainly try to include a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Amazon. The jungle excursions we offer our guests are perfect for the whole family. Through our ecotourism based conservation model we conserve and protect our own Private Conservation Area, offering eco-friendly activities that include nature trail walks, exploring rivers and lakes by boat, catamaran and canoe, and visits to Tambopata’s unique clay licks, where macaws and parrots can be seen gathering in huge mixed-species flocks!
As a parent, if you’ve ever imagined introducing your children to the wonders of the natural world, and teaching them through first-hand experience about the importance of protecting our planet, then a family holiday in Peru that includes the Amazon is the perfect trip for you!
A 3-, 4- or 5-day stay at our Tambopata Ecolodge is easy to include as part of a family vacation in Peru. In our own Tambopata Private Conservation Area and the neighboring Tambopata National Reserve, kids will love the trail walks escorted by attentive and knowledgeable naturalist guides, boat rides on the rainforest’s rivers and lakes, and the chance to see amazing wildlife, ranging from the tiniest insects and flowers, to giant anacondas and massive trees, all in the safety of a fully-supported rainforest package!
As well as the jungles of Tambopata, there are attractions and activities the whole family can share and enjoy in Cusco and Lima. When you arrive in Cusco the whole family will want to see Machu Picchu. But if you’re traveling with young children, they probably won’t want to see too many other archaeological sites. So, during your Cusco stay, think about trying more immersive cultural experiences, like visiting local communities to see how they live, or touring bustling local markets.
In the Sacred Valley of the Incas, the whole family can enjoy the beautiful scenery on a horseback riding tour, while another way to see the Sacred Valley is on a “hike and learn Spanish tour”. Your kids will pick up the basics of the language so fast!
And while many visitors to Peru avoid spending time in its biggest city, there is plenty for families with small kids to do in Lima. If you decide to spend a couple of days in Lima at the end of your Peru vacation, take the time to visit the fun-filled Water Park, the mysterious catacombs of San Francisco church, or one of Lima’s FOUR chocolate museums, and try to fit in one of Lima’s famous food tours!
