Our Tambopata Ecolodge and the neighboring Tambopata National Reserve, where we operate many of our ecotourism programs, are just a short plane ride from Cusco, the most popular travel destination in South America. This makes Tambopata the perfect rainforest destination for travelers who want to include the Amazon as part of their Peru holiday experience. After visiting Cusco and hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, travelers can board a plane at Cusco airport and fly direct to the Peruvian jungle.
Recently named among the nine Peru tourist attractions included in the world’s "Top 100 Sustainable Destinations”, Tambopata offers quick, easy access to the wildlife habitats of the tropical forest and the extraordinary biodiversity of the Amazon basin. From Cusco or Lima, travelers can fly to the jungle town of Puerto Maldonado, from where we meet our guests at the local airport for a fabulous boat ride up the Tambopata River, into the protected primary forests where our eco-lodge is located.
From our comfortable eco-lodge, with its cabin-style rooms, beautiful bar and lounge area and spacious dining room, where in the heart of the jungle travelers can enjoy many of the comforts they’d expect to find in a hotel, we invite our guests to explore the Amazon basin in the company of our expert naturalist guides.
Together with the less readily accessible Bahuaja-Sonene National Park in Peru and the Madidi National Park across the border in Bolivia, Tambopata National Reserve forms the largest area of protected tropical forest in South America. This is the perfect place to experience the jungles of South America and the incredible wildlife they shelter, as part of a one- or two-week vacation in Peru.
We offer our guests fully escorted three-, four- and five-day itineraries in the biologically diverse Amazon tropical forest habitat of Tambopata National Reserve and our own Tambopata Private Conservation Area, where we have been working for more than 30 years to develop our conservation-based ecotourism model and protect the rainforest.
Our itineraries include private excursions for our eco-lodge guests on isolated forest trails, in small groups within Tambopata National Reserve and its Buffer Zone, as well as extended guided excursions within the Reserve to visit isolated forest lakes and the macaw and parrot clay licks for which our forests are renowned. Situated within the biodiverse Tambopata National Reserve, these clay licks attract dozens of species of macaws and parrots, in mixed flocks that gather in a matchless spectacle of color and sound to consume the clay they need as part of their diet.
Our Tambopata Ecolodge team is composed of highly qualified and experienced professionals. They include expert naturalist guides, boat crews and experienced hotel staff, all working together to ensure that our guests enjoy a unique and unforgettable Amazon adventure when they select one of our full board eco-lodge itineraries. Our rainforest trips can be provided on a shared basis or as private services, and as well as our published itineraries we can design unique tailored vacation experiences for those travelers interested in exploring specific aspects of tropical forest life.
