We built our rainforest eco-lodge in the Amazon basin of southeastern Peru more than 30 years ago to protect the animals and plants of the forest, and to provide a comfortable base for travelers from all over the world, so that they could enjoy a jungle trip and return home with a greater understanding of the importance of conserving the Amazon.
More than three decades later, the rainforest that is our home is healthier than ever, and filled with abundant wildlife. Our Amazon jungle lodge is a magical place where, with the expert help of our local guides, travelers can make the best use of their time during their Peru vacation.
The Amazon jungle is seasonal. The dry season runs from April to November, although of course it can rain at any time of year in tropical forests. This means that, whatever time of year you decide to travel, you’ll need to pack sunscreen as well as a rain jacket! The heaviest rains fall in January and February, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a rainforest trip during those months. There are definite advantages to visiting Tambopata during the rainy season, which is also the fruiting season. This means that many species of fauna, including Tambopata’s many species of monkeys, are particularly active.
Fruit on trees also means more birdwatching opportunities. And numbering among Tambopata’s incredible birdlife, which includes more than six hundred species, are Tambopata’s famous macaws and parrots. The many macaw species of Tambopata nest during the rainy season, and they visit Tambopata National Reserve’s famous clay licks frequently.
As well as the largest and most active parrot and macaw clay licks in South America, at Tambopata Ecolodge our rainforest offers visitors many other fabulous attractions. Because the forests we work to conserve are composed of eight different types of Amazon ecosystem, they provide a refuge for incredible biological diversity. To give yourself the best chance of seeing animals, as part of your Peru vacation try to make time for a visit lasting 4 days and 3 nights, because the longer you stay with us in the Amazon rainforest, the more you’ll see!
