Tambopata National Reserve, which borders our own Private Conservation Area and is the setting for many of the guided jungle tours we offer our guests, is located on the Tambopata River, in the rainforest that covers southeastern Peru.
Here, in one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth, more 30 years ago we designed our rainforest lodge home to be the best place to visit the Amazon rainforest in Peru. It is the variety of different ecosystems that makes our part of South America the best choice for a jungle trip. Here, the area we help to protect is composed of riverside forests, wetlands and lakes. Each of these habitats is home to unique flora and fauna, and this means that in total Tambopata can boast more than 600 species of birds, 1200 species of butterflies, more than 160 species of mammals, and hundreds of species of trees and plants.
One of the major attractions of our Tambopata home is the series of clay licks that have made our rainforest so famous. You may have seen on Instagram, or on other social media, groups of brightly-plumaged macaws, parrots and parakeets, clinging to the mud banks of the river and creating a feast of color. Well, with us here at Tambopata Ecolodge, you can see, photograph and experience this spectacle for yourself, as part of one of our all-inclusive packages.
At Tambopata Ecolodge, we encourage responsible tourism, planning all our activities carefully to minimize any negative impacts, and working hard –as we have done for more than three decades- to ensure that our part of the rainforests of Peru remains an unspoiled refuge for the plants and animals of the Amazon basin.
If you plan to visit Peru on vacation, then you shouldn’t miss the chance to visit the jungle. And our location, in primary rainforest that can be reached quickly and easily from Cusco or Lima, means that you can stay with us at our rainforest lodge, and still not miss out on seeing everything that Machu Picchu and Cusco have to offer!
