Our rainforest eco-lodge is situated in Tambopata, a jungle tour destination that all travelers who love nature and are planning a Peru vacation should add to their Cusco and Machu Picchu travel plans. We are easy to get to by air from Lima or Cusco, and there is even a bus service from Cusco to our nearest town, Puerto Maldonado.
In the Amazon rainforest we work to protect, the average annual temperature is 26°C, with peaks and lows between 38°C and 10°C. While the rainy season runs from November to March, it can rain at any time of year, even during the height of the dry season, from June to August. This means that good preparation is essential to ensure that your rainforest trip will be memorable for all the right reasons.
So, when you plan your jungle trip, you need to make sure that you pack everything you’ll need. When you come to stay with us during your Tambopata visit, you should be prepared for the presence of mosquitoes and other insects, the possibility of intermittent showers or heavy rain, intense sunshine, and heat and humidity.
At Tambopata Ecolodge, after their airport pick-up in the town of Puerto Maldonado, we provide all our guests with a heavy duty duffle bag for transferring their clothing and other gear by river to our jungle lodge, 68 kilometers from town. Of course, it’s always best to travel light, but at the same time you need to make sure that you pack everything you’ll need during your eco-lodge stay and Amazon forest guided tours and excursions.
Remember that along with heat and high humidity comes the presence of insects. In the rainforest, insects are a fact of life, so be sure to pack a good quality insect repellent, as well as long-sleeved –preferably breathable- shirts, and long trousers. At our rainforest lodge, all our facilities are screened against insects, and beds are fitted with mosquito nets, but you’ll need repellent on the forest trail walks included as part of the jungle packages we offer.
Items in your daypack for trail walks and river and lake boat trips should include sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, a hat or cap, waterproof raingear, a warm jacket for early mornings on the river, and of course your camera, to capture all those special moments and wildlife sightings. And if you enjoy birdwatching, take along a good pair of binoculars.
