The strategic location of Tambopata, where our comfortable rainforest lodge is located, makes it a refuge for countless species of flora and fauna and also the ideal destination for ecotourism and adventure travelers. Here in Tambopata, visitors can immerse themselves in virgin rainforest ecosystems, navigate meandering rivers, and enjoy wildlife sightings and immersion in unspoiled Amazon flora. In addition to our incredible biodiversity, the accessibility of Tambopata makes us the best place for a rainforest trip, during which guests can experience the wealth of life that characterizes the Peruvian Amazon in just 3 or 4 days, as part of their Peru vacation.
Tambopata National Reserve and our own Tambopata Ecolodge Private Conservation Area offer a unique rainforest experience for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the Peruvian Amazon’s rich biodiversity. This natural paradise which is our home offers a wide range of activities that allow for a deep connection with nature in just a few days. From river tours to night walks, each activity brings our guests closer to the essence of this unique jungle setting.
The best way to see the rainforest anywhere in South America is by river. And right from the start on one of our jungle packages, our guests get to experience the Amazon rainforest, just by boarding the boat to our lodge, which is located 68 kilometers by river from the nearest town, Puerto Maldonado.
And that is just the beginning of the adventure. Based at our comfortable lodge, surrounded by primary forest, our guests spend their time in the company of one of our local naturalist guides, exploring forest trails, navigating rivers, and visiting fauna-rich oxbow lake ecosystems, where wildlife inhabits the waters themselves, as well as the lakeshores.
At Tambopata Ecolodge, we encourage our guests to enjoy a rainforest experience in the jungle on foot, by both day and night, looking out for wildlife by day, and taking the time to appreciate the sounds of the forest at night. When night falls, the Amazon rainforest is transformed, and many creatures that only become active at dusk can be spotted, ranging from tiny, colorful frogs, to apex predators in the form of four species of caimans.
And of course, we also like to take our guests to the macaw and parrot clay licks for which Tambopata is particularly famous. These natural clay walls along riverbanks attract scores of macaws, parrots and parakeets, as they gather to consume the clay that neutralizes the toxins found in the fruits they ingest as part of their diet.
When you visit Peru, join us in our jungle lodge home, and experience these and many other marvels for yourself!
