Areas of rainforest are being destroyed every day, putting the countless species that depend on them at risk. By visiting us at our Tambopata Ecolodge and Private Conservation Area, you are supporting wildlife conservation in the Amazon basin. Below, we explain who we are, and our role in conservation through sustainable ecotourism.
Tambopata Ecolodge is a Peruvian ecotourism company. Since 1991, our eco-lodge has shown the value of standing tropical rainforests, helping to protect them from unsustainable economic exploitation, while involving local people and their communities in the care and protection of the natural world.
As a traveler, you almost certainly want to visit the Amazon to experience unspoiled areas of forest filled with ancient trees and home to fabulous wildlife. By visiting the Amazon basin and spending time with us at our eco-lodge, you help to ensure the future of the forests you have come to see.
We make travelers’ dreams of experiencing the wonders of the Amazon basin a reality by providing everything needed to make such an adventure not just possible, but also comfortable. We offer our guests pleasant cabins, hot showers, excellent food and even a bar and lounge for relaxing in their down time. And during our ecotourism excursions and camping trips into the surrounding forests we offer them a rewarding experience in the company of expert naturalist guides, as they explore some of the most biologically diverse wilderness areas on Earth.
At Tambopata Ecolodge, nature is our reason for existing. Our goal is to share our commitment to nature with travelers from all over the world. That is why we have created our eco-lodge in a remote corner of the Peruvian Amazon, surrounded our cabins with tropical gardens, and worked since 1991 to conserve and protect the forests of which we are the custodians.
And as we work to conserve the forests, we also work with local communities, because the only way to sustainably protect and preserve the Amazon is to involve local people and benefit the local economy. Many local people work with us as guides, lodge staff or support staff, benefiting their families and teaching the wider community that the rainforest is more valuable to us all when it is left standing.
Our eco-lodge is carefully designed to harmonize with the surrounding forest. Our buildings have been conceived based on traditional designs, with their exteriors blending with the natural setting, while their interiors incorporate all the comforts guests could wish for, after time spent immersed in nature.
And our location is unsurpassed. Our eco-lodge is only accessible by river. Far from the roads that have cut into other parts of the rainforest, Amazon flora and fauna thrive all around us. The areas in which we offer our guests ecotourism activities are protected from activities such as logging, hunting and gold mining, thanks to our own efforts as official conservation concession holders, and the work of the Peruvian authorities.
All this means our eco-lodge guests have every opportunity of seeing and photographing wildlife, and of learning more about the forests that are home to such wonderful creatures. The thriving populations of monkeys and other wildlife in the forests we help to protect are testament to the overall health of the rainforest ecosystem. During their time with us, in addition to monkeys our guests can see caimans, hundreds of bird species –including Tambopata’s famous macaws- and many other examples of typical Amazon fauna, including even the jaguars that stand at the top of the rainforest food chain!
